OVERVIEW: PRO BONO CAMPAIGN FOR THE CITY OF BOSTON
One Boston Day honors those impacted by the April 15, 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, while celebrating the selflessness and courage displayed by those who tried to help. That day, Boston met violence and tragedy with love and an outpouring of financial and emotional support that continues to this day.
To mark the fifth anniversary of the bombing, I directed these three films about some of the resilient survivors, many of whom had spent the past several years healing themselves by helping others.
We screened the films on April 15, 2018 at the annual memorial for the survivors and family members of the victims, in a ceremony led by Massachusetts Governor, Charlie Baker and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh. Afterwards, the work went live on the onebostonday.org site. A print ad featuring a defiant David Ortiz, and a celebrity-led social media campaign supported the effort, encouraged people everywhere to commit random acts of kindness, big and small. The point? To remind the world, and ourselves, that, in the immortal words of Big Papi, "This is our f*cking city!"
